Step-by-Step Process to Get Your UNARMED NJ SORA License (Yellow)
Step 1: Register Online with NJSP
Process
- Go to the official NJ State Police website:
- eapps.njsp.org
- Click “Applicant” → “New/First Time SORA Application”.
- Create an account and fill out your personal information. .
- You’ll pay the application fee online.
Step 2: Schedule Fingerprinting
Process
- After submitting your application, you’ll be directed to schedule fingerprinting through IdentoGO (by IDEMIA).
- You’ll receive an email with a link and a service code.
- Fingerprinting cost is additional.
- Bring a valid photo ID (driver’s license, passport, etc.) to your appointment.
Step 3: Complete the 24-Hour SORA Training Class

- After completing the class, log back into your NJSP SORA account.
- Upload your training completion certificate (PDF or photo).
- The instructor may also upload it on your behalf.
Step 5: Wait for NJSP Approval

- NJSP will review your background check and training.
- If approved, you’ll receive an email stating your SORA license is active.
- You can print your card or keep a digital copy.

Renewal Steps (Every 2 Years)

- Renew your SORA online before it expires.
- Take the 8-hour refresher class (renewal course).
